Myths and Realities of Data for Innovation: An Overview for CTOs

At the CTO Insights Medellín event, Leonardo Betancur, CTO of Jaibaná IT, gave an enlightening talk under the topic "Myths and Realities of Data for Innovation: An Overview for CTOs". Leonardo, who has a deep background in electronic engineering with a PhD from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana and additional studies in blockchain technologies at MIT Sloan School of Management, addressed crucial challenges facing CTOs today, such as cybersecurity, infrastructure scalability and alignment with business objectives.

During his presentation, Betancur highlighted how digital transformation can be a significant process that integrates information, computing, communication and connectivity technologies to drive important changes in organizations. However, he mentioned that a high percentage of these projects fail due to inadequate data management and challenges in traceability and privacy of information. These points highlight the complexity and risks inherent in data management in the digital era.

Finally, he proposed an innovative model of data management through a 'Data Trust', a mechanism that seeks to protect users' privacy while promoting equitable access to data. This system would allow for more ethical and transparent management, addressing issues of use, traceability and empowerment of users in negotiating over their personal data. This approach, according to Betancur, not only fosters community trust, but also presents new business opportunities for technology-focused companies and startups.
